After months of wrangling with Republicans over the appropriate role of government in health care, the Senate Finance Committee's 13 Democrats were joined by a lone Republican, Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine, on October 13 in approving a reform bill that would establish a mandate for most individuals to obtain health insurance.
